What is contraception?
Contraception is the prevention of pregnancy, also known as contraception. Most people know about the ways in which the pill and condoms. However, there are other options. If you are on birth control, talk to think with your family doctor. Your choice will depend on your health, your desire for protection from disease and your personal ideas and preferences. As always, if you look at birth control, keep in mind that each method only works if you use it consistently and correctly.
What type of contraception is right for me?
Select the type of birth control you choose depends on your needs. Some people need only prevent a pregnancy. Other people may also want themselves or their partners from diseases that can protect transmitted through sex. These diseases are called sexually transmitted infections (STI). Some STDs include acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), chlamydia, human papillomavirus (HPV), acquired herpes, genital warts and syphilis.

Say "no" to sex really an option?

Of all the barrier method options condoms offer the best protection against sexually transmitted diseases. Using a spermicide with condoms offer better protection against pregnancy, but it can not increase your protection against sexually transmitted diseases.Spermicides with nonoxynol-9 can genital irritation and may even increase the risk of catching an STI.
Female condoms are not as effective as male condoms, but they can be a good choice when a man does not use a condom.
Hormonal methods of contraception Hormonal birth control methods prevent pregnancy mainly by preventing ovulation (the release of an egg by the ovaries). They do this by releasing the hormones estrogen and progestin (or progesterone alone) in your body. Hormonal contraceptive methods are prescribed by your doctor and include the contraceptive pill, the patch, vaginal ring, hormone shots and implants, and a kind of spiral.
